Art in Bloom at the NC Museum of Art

Nature has a special power, and flowers have long been used in paintings to symbolize feelings of power and political and historical events, and new beginnings. In this year’s Art in Bloom, NCMA has it all.

Laura Finan, Director of Stewardship and Special Initiatives says, “We are happy to welcome a perfect spring offering at NCMA with a welcomed exhibit that has graced the Museum since 2015. Since its inception, more than 114,000 visitors have enjoyed the flowers and art, which are a wonderful expression of spring, joy, and renewal.” She continues, “While each year is special in its own right, I am particularly looking forward to the year’s West wing installation created by Heather Miller of Eclectic Sage and Zoe Webster’s floral demonstration featuring expert designer Steve Taras of Watered Garden Florist.”

The five-day event, Art in Bloom, is an annual fundraiser presented by PNC Bank from March 15-19 and supports the Museum’s continuing programs and exhibitions. The exhibition features imaginative floral arrangements of every variety and hue from 39 North Carolina floral designers, giving viewers a new way to connect with art through the untamed beauty of the floral interpretations of the Museum’s latest acquisitions in the People’s Collection in the West Building of the Museum.

The 30 floral designs were selected by a lottery choice, with each designer moving their individual selection into a floral interpretation of a piece of art chosen by the Museum staff.
Volunteer gardeners are located throughout the gallery to answer questions about the flowers.
Unfortunately, tickets sold out prior to the event, but we hope these photos will give you some idea of the creativity and beautiful arrangements from the designers!
