Mar 29, 2019 06:19PM ● By Crash Gregg

The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority and Air Canada rolled out the red carpet for Raleigh travel notables at the Brier Creek Country Club Wednesday night to announce Air Canada's new non-stop service from the Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) to Montreal beginning in June. Utilizing the four non-stop daily flights to Montréal and Toronto, Ontario, Air Canada will offer 102 connecting flights to destinations around the world, including Sydney, Australia, Hong Kong, Barcelona, Spain, Dublin, Ireland, Venice, Italy, Croatia, and many others.

Air Canada's Senior Vice President, Regional Markets & Government Relations, Ferio Pugliese, and the President and CEO of The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority, Michael Landguth, spoke on the new route and some of the history of Air Canada and the RDU airport. Air Canada representatives from all over the United States were available to answer questions.

In 2018, Air Canada celebrated its 81st year and was the first airline to provide non-stop international service from RDU in 1996, which flew to Toronto. As of the end of last year, Air Canada has connected over 51 million passengers around the world. The airline added more than 120 new routes in the last five years, 35 of which are between Canada and the United States. They currently have 60 international routes from the United States, making them the largest foreign flight carrier in North America.
