The NCModernist Movie series continues Sept. 1 at The Rialto with a screening of "Arthur Elrod: Desert Cool." Arthur Elrod was Palm Springs' most glamorous interior designer, and his playground was architect John Lautner's concrete-and-glass masterpiece — immortalized in the James Bond film, "Diamonds Are Forever." This film reveals how Elrod fused desert modernism with Hollywood theatricality, creating spaces so bold even Bond villains coveted them.
