  • About Tyler Starr

Tyler Starr integrates research, direct observation, and poetic association into mixed media works that visualize contemporary social and political conundrums. He earned his Doctor of Fine Arts from Tokyo University of the Arts as a recipient of the Japanese Ministry of Education Scholarship. He is the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, Poland, as well as residencies and fellowships at Denmark’s Christiania Research Residency, the OMI International Arts Center, and the Kala Art Institute in Berkeley. Internationally exhibited, Starr’s work has been shown at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo and the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art. His artist’s books are held in numerous permanent collections, including the New York Public Library’s Spencer Collection, the University of Chicago, and the Smithsonian American Art and Portrait Gallery Library. He is currently an Associate Professor of Art at Davidson College.
