Feel the rhythm and ignite your passion for dance at Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club, the AAA Four Diamond hotel located on Duke University's campus. This beginner-friendly Rumba class, led by Jordan Jewell of Move With Grace Ballroom, will introduce participants to the incredible versatility of “Cuban Motion” – the playful sway of the body and hips. The style’s slow rhythm and fluid movements, paired with traditional Rumba music and pop favorites alike, gives it the reputation as “the dance of love.” Guests will visit the Inn’s beautifully renovated Vista Restaurant after the dance class from 7-7:30 p.m. for an intimate Q&A session, where they will delve into the cultural history and origins of the Rumba. As an added treat, the Inn’s talented culinary team will serve a complimentary sample of a specialty cocktail inspired by the unique culture and flavor profiles of the period the Rumba originated. Jordan Jewell, owner of Durham-based Move With Grace Ballroom, has been a competitive dancer since age 17.
