Fire and Water
Sculpture by Holly Fischer and Paintings by Bassmi
Holly Fischer (1976- , NC) and Bassmi Ibrahim (1941-2019, FL) are quite different artists from quite different generations. Holly’s work is born of Earth and Fire. Bassmi’s is born of Water. Holly grew up during the back-to-the-land movement of the 1970’s in Michigan. Bassmi spent his childhood on the banks of the Nile River. Holly’s art is three-dimensional ceramic sculpture: white earthenware fired in a kiln to 1,945 degrees Fahrenheit. Bassmi’s art is two-dimensional: layers of oils and acrylics poured over canvas.
