Climb Out of the Darkness 2017 - Raleigh

North Carolina (PSI-NC) is a new nonprofit dedicated to assisting North Carolina families and their physicians in treating the number one complication of childbirth: perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). One in seven mothers will face some form of PMAD, such as pregnancy or postpartum anxiety and depression, and postpartum post-traumatic stress, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and psychosis. The mission of PSI-NC is to promote awareness, education, prevention, and treatment of maternal mental health issues affecting mothers, their families, and support systems throughout North Carolina. This year, eight NC towns and cities are taking part in the fifth annual national Climb Out of the DarknessĀ® in order to raise awareness and funds. Always held around the longest day of the year, Climb Out of the DarknessĀ® events invite friends, families, and survivors of PMADs from all over the world walk together at a local mountain or park to symbolize their collective rise out of the darkness and to shine the light on maternal mental illness.
