Chef Scott Crawford and The Sunday Supper Raise over $400,000 for Hurricane Relief Efforts

Oct 09, 2018 08:20PM ● By Crash Gregg

In the wake of Hurricane Florence, Chef Scott Crawford of Crawford and Son partnered with The Sunday Supper on relief events to benefit the small businesses so vital to North Carolina’s hospitality industry and thriving economy. The “Come Together for the Coast” event on October 7th successfully raised over $400,000 through ticket sales, corporate donations and sponsorships, and a live auction. Celebrated chefs and restaurateurs – including Ashley Christensen, Vivian Howard, Vansana Nolintha, Jake Wood and many more – headlined the October 7th dinner at The Dillon.

“From farmers and fishermen to restaurateurs, we have one of the richest food communities in the country. These small, family-owned businesses who feed us every day have been devastated. Now it’s our turn to take care of them,” explained Crawford, who organized the dinner on Sunday, October 7th. Crawford is also organizing a second partnership effort with The Sunday Supper, a community lunch on Sunday, November 11th directly on Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh.

The Sunday Supper – the Raleigh-based non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to bringing people together at the supper table – was born out of a community-building event in 2016 following Hurricane Matthew. An impressive $189,000 was raised in just three short weeks for the devastation that cost North Carolina approximately $1.5 billion. Given the projected $17 billion in damages caused by Hurricane Florence, The Sunday Supper, along with Scott Crawford and chefs, are on a mission to make an even greater financial contribution this year.

“We believe in the power of bringing our community together around the supper table to care for one another. We invite you to join us at these events to support those who have dedicated their livelihoods to nourishing our community,” explained Willa Kane, board chair for The Sunday Supper. These two events – an elegant dinner and a casual lunch – were designed to give the entire community an opportunity to gather around the supper table to make a difference together.

On Sunday, October 7th, guests experienced signature dishes from the Triangle’s most prominent chefs, enjoyed live music from BJ Barham of American Aquarium, and had the opportunity to participate in an exciting live auction – all of which benefited Hurricane Florence victims.
